  • 1 Corinthians 13

I may be able to speak the languages of human beings and even of angels, but if I have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell. I may have the gift of inspired preaching; I may have all knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have all the faith needed to move mountains — but if I have no love, I am nothing. I may give away everything I have, and even give up my body to be burnt — but if I have no love, this does me no good. Love...

  • The Girl on the Bus

The girl on the bus was inquisitive. She was not the girl pictured, but she embodied the reality of the girl pictured: she was a girl, sat on a bus. Sat on the seat directly in front of me, actually. As soon as she had placed herself there, I sensed she’d done so with a purpose. She started by asking, “What’s in the bag?” Or something like that; I can’t really remember. The bag she was referring to however was my overly-large Argos carrier bag filled with new pillows for my bed. “Oh, just pillows,” I replied. “Wow, it’s...

  • The Word

On Tuesday February 14th 2017 it felt like my year had finally started for real. After many days wasted spent ‘wanting more from God but never actually doing anything about it’ I decided to read the Bible. Not the whole thing, obviously. But I decided to commit to reading the entire Bible within a year. It’s not an easy feat, as I am familiar with already. Previous attempts to do the same thing have failed. In fact, I don’t even think I’ve read the entire Bible cover-to-cover. It’s not a requirement to get into Heaven. In the bits I have...

  • Grown

You know you’re a grown ass man when you fully well understand that Santa Father Nick Christmas Claus is a figment of someone’s imagination (and cocaine addiction). He is not real. For me this was realised yet again last year when my Dad told me to wrap up my own present. ”You know what it is anyway,” he shrugged. Do I now act surprised on Christmas Day? I was so confused… Further evidence supporting my claims comes from common sense. Reindeer cannot fly. And even if they could that doesn’t mean they’d be able to travel around the entire world, across every time-zone, carrying...

  • Prayer for my thoughts

My greatest enemy is myself Detrimental to my health Always fretting about grades, looks and wealth There is no respite, from this my chosen way to live my life Sunday’s sermon is telling me, God’s got you – don’t worry But to worry is my story It feels like my destiny In fact it’s my identity I express nothing but uncertainty At a future laid before me, surely filled with prosperity? At least that’s what I’m told – the ideal that’s sold But I don’t see it. I can’t see it....

  • Chicken Liberation

The other day I was stopped in town by a random. Total, complete random stranger. “Do you like chicken nuggets?” was her question (she had no idea who she was talking to – or maybe she did… racial profiling?) “Yeah, I love chicken nuggets,” I replied, trying to hold back undeniable excitement. She later explained that they were doing a taste test in the town hall where I could go and taste and test some chicken nuggets. I heard the sound of alarm bells. Dude I know you love chicken and nuggets and this is a freaking dream come true…...
